I thought i would get this topic all out in the open. I am trying to convert tape to mp3. I called best buy and they said that I needed a 200 dollar sound card with left and rigt inputs, not to mention some conversion software. I already have a audio cable, is there another way, a cheaper way to do the conversion?

but how would I get the tape onto my sound recorder? Can I just plug the audio cabel into my mic jack and my headphone jack on my radio?

Hello DF. I use CDEX for all of my tape to mp3 conversion stuff. You definatly don't need a 200 dollar sound card, just a line in jack. If you have a line in jack, you can go to radio crap and buy a 4 dollar patch cord witch goes from the tape player to the computer. Even a headphone extender will do. CDEX can be found at the url I will provide in the next message. Any further questions, let me know. HTH, Scott

Yeap, line-in should be all you need, might have to mess a bit with the volume settings on your tape player so as not to get distortion on the recording/burning but that should be all you need. Let us know how it goes.
